Welcome to Wonderful Windham, the hub of Eastern Connecticut. Windham's urban center, Willimantic, gained fame in the 19th century for its high quality cotton thread, and became known as America's Thread City. Windham County boasts a charming rural, agrarian ambiance. It's often referred to as the Last Green Valley in America's crowded Northeast corridor.

Located in eastern Connecticut, the area is sometimes referred to as "New England's Quiet Corner. Nearby counties: to the North is Worcester County, Massachusetts, and to the East is Providence County, RI. On the Southeast is Kent County, RI and the Southwest is New London County. The western border is with Tolland County, CT.

Connecticut's Quiet Corner encompasses 745 square miles of beautiful countryside dotted with town greens, historic mill villages and rural agricultural areas, including the 21 towns of: Ashford, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Chaplin, Columbia, Coventry, Eastford, Hampton, Killingly, Lebanon, Mansfield, Plainfield, Pomfret, Putnam, Scotland, Sterling, Thompson, Union, Willington, Windham, Woodstock.

Want to try a unique vacation? A major New England tourist destination, the village of Mystic, CT is home to the Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration, known for its popular beluga whales. The business district on either side of the bascule bridge crossing the Mystic River contains many restaurants. Local sailing cruises are available on the traditional sailing ship Argia.
