Located just 35 miles northeast of Manhattan, Coastal Fairfield County is unique and diverse. Our 30 miles of active coastline, indented by numerous coves and harbors, reach inland to gently rolling wooded hills. Classic stone walls mark earlier boundaries and wander endlessly between our cities and quaint towns with their village greens and traditional New England church spires.
Annually there are over 1,000 special events and festivals. Top events include the Barnum Festival, Concours d'Elegance (one of the premier car events of its kind), Garlicfest, SoNo Arts Festival, Swim Across the Sound, Norwalk Seaport Association's Oyster Festival, Norwalk International in-water Boat Show, and Giant Balloon Parade Spectacular. Major attractions include Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium with its IMAX Theater, Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum (an 1846 52-room Victorian mansion), Sheffield Island Lighthouse (1868) and Stepping Stones Museum for Children. Bridgeport features the Beardsley Zoo, Barnum Museum, The Discovery Museum and the Bridgeport Bluefish Professional Baseball. For art lovers, Weir Farm National Historic Site, summer home of American impressionist painter J. Alden Weir, in Wilton and Silvermine Guild Arts Center in New Canaan are special treasures.
